During Year 9 at Wolgarston, students will complete their Key Stage 3 education in English, but with the introduction of new GCSEs in English Language and English Literature, great emphasis is placed on Year 9 to provide a solid foundation for Key Stage 4 study.
Students will be assessed across the three key areas of reading, writing and speaking and listening. Key assessments are tied closely to the assessment objectives used at GCSE so students are explicitly aware of the skills needed to succeed in this subject.
Units in Year 9 will cover exploration of prose, poetry, study of Shakespeare and opportunities for extended original writing. We also place great value on improving literacy skills and students will also be assessed on their command of specific spellings, subject terminology, grammar and punctuation.
