Sixth Form Student Council
The Sixth Form Council comprises:
- Head Girl and Head Boy
- Councillor/s for competitions
- Councillor/s for the environment
- Councillor/s for fundraising
- Councillor/s for mentoring
- Councillor/s for public relations
- Councillor / s for wellbeing
All Councillors will:
Act as ambassadors and role models for the 6th Form/School.
Act as a representative of the students at key functions of the school, e.g., Year 9 Options Evening, Prospective 6th Form Evening, showing visitors around the school, and Senior Citizens Party.
Act in conjunction with the Head of 6th Form to promote the 3 A’s principles of the 6th Form to fellow students.
In addition to the general roles the, Head Girl and Head Boy will:
Lead the 6th Form Council
Lead the Student Council
Represent the student voice in 6th Form
Be the public voice of the sixth form and address audiences at key functions of the school, for example to prospective parents & students at school events and to the governing body.
Work with the Headteacher, and other senior staff, to represent and improve the school. This will include compiling a termly report.
Applications to be Head Girl or Head Boy can only be from individuals.
If you are a student in Year 12 or Year 13 with an excellent record of behaviour, attendance, punctuality and uniform, who has demonstrated a commitment to the school, then you are a suitable candidate.
In addition to the general roles, the Councillor for competitions will:
Lead competitions within the sixth form. These can be of any format for example, inter-tutor group, inter-year, sporting, quizzes, art, poetry, debate. (This list is not exhaustive but any competitions must be agreed by the Sixth Form Council and, over the course of a year, be inclusive to all sixth form students.)
Students interested in a future in sport, politics, art and design and/or organising and publicizing large events may be interested in this role.

In addition to the general roles, the Councillor for the environment will:
Lead how the sixth form interact with their environment in the sixth form centre, be responsible for environmental initiatives and lead the whole school Eco-committee to make a difference to the environmental impact of all Wolgarston students.
Students interested in the future of the planet, science, sustainable development, geography or planning may be interested in this role.
Applications to be a Councillor for the environment can include up to 3 people.
In addition to the general roles, the Councillor for fundraising will:
Lead fundraising initiatives within the sixth form and achieve the aim of raising £240 per year for the Link for Life charity and, raise money to invest back into the 6th form facilities and/or raise money for other charities as decided by the Sixth Form Council. The fundraising initiatives can be of (almost!) any format but any fundraising initiatives must be agreed by the Sixth Form Council.
In addition to sixth form fundraising, the councillor must liaise with the House Leaders and School Council to co-ordinate fundraising, where appropriate, with the main school.
Students interested in helping the welfare of others less fortunate than themselves may be interested in this role as may students interested in a future in organising and publicizing large events.

In addition to the general roles, the Councillor for mentoring will:
Lead the mentoring of main school students by sixth form students. This will involve liaising with Subject Leaders and organising volunteers from the sixth form to mentor students across a range of main school subjects and/or to act as role models to younger pupils. Mentors will be needed for maths and English but could also act in a mentoring role in any subject or with any individual.
Students interested in helping the development of others, providing long term care, sociology, psychology, maths, English, health and social care, French, Spanish or teaching may be interested in this role.
Applications to be a Councillor for mentoring can include up to 3 people.
In addition to the general roles, the Councillor for public relations will:
Lead how the sixth form is perceived within the school and in the wider community. The Councillor for public relations will be responsible for publicising events that sixth form students participate in. It is envisaged that the councillor will publicise what the Sixth Form council decide and disseminate information about the sixth form in a range of formats including social media platforms by liaising with Mr Phillips and Mr Smith.
Students interested in developing their English skills, or with an interest in media, business, publicity, art & design or journalism may be interested in this role.
Applications to be Councillor for public relations can include up to 2 people.
In addition to the general roles, the Councillor for wellbeing will:
Act as a focal point for sixth form students to go to if they have any wellbeing concerns. These Councillors will act in a non-threatening, peer supportive role and must be sixth formers who are friendly, considerate and able to treat private issues confidentially. This role will involve liaising with members of the inclusion hub and there will be training given before the role starts.
Students interested in helping others or being a friendly person to speak to might be interested in this role. There is no specific academic background associated with this role.
