WOLGARSTON CELEBRATES
GCSE RESULTS
Once again we see our GCSE performance improve as our Year 11 students’ results achieve yet another ‘best ever’ record. Students achieving 5 A*-C grades hit 80% this year which is an increase of 2% on last year’s results. We are particularly delighted with a further record performance from the English department where 80% of students achieved A*-C.
Headteacher, Phil Tapp, said, “Alongside some great GCSE results, we have also seen strong performances from all four of our BTEC courses which were new for this year, so there is much to celebrate.
“We are particularly delighted with the outstanding set of GCSE English results and our 5 A*-G pass rate, which was over 99%, giving us another ‘best ever’ record.“
Top performing students were Faye Barlow, Ben Cooper, Sophie Evans, Mark Gator, Luke Hatton, Olivia Thomas, Laura Whittington, Lauren White and Harry Webb who all gained at least 9 or more A*-A grades each.
Steve Askew, Chair of Governors, said, “The governors are delighted with this concrete evidence of the school’s continued improvement. We are particularly pleased to see the 5 A*-C score rise for the fifth consecutive year.”

In addition, students once again performed well in subjects such as Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Geography. We also achieved a 100% pass rate in our BTEC Sport course with all students achieving either merit or distinction."
Students who gained straight As were Lloyd Cross, Hannah Durham, Martin Hayes, Georgina Morris, Jake Murphy, Dan Parr, Bryony Robinson and Alex Leroux.
Chair of Governors, Steve Askew, himself an old Wolgarstonian, said, "Once more, hard work and dedication from our students and excellent teaching from our staff have yielded top results for Wolgarston, which should see us retaining our high performing reputation among Staffordshire schools."
