Wolgarston High School celebrates another strong set of Year 11 results

22 August 2019

Once again students at Wolgarston High School in Penkridge have recorded a very strong set of GCSE and BTEC results. Not only was the overall attainment particularly strong but the progress also was well above national average.

For the fifth consecutive year attainment & progress will both be well above national and local averages. Wolgarston will again be one of the very top performers in the county. The school performed strongly across a very wide range of subjects including the core subjects of English, Maths and Science.

Headteacher Philip Tapp said, “I am delighted that once again Wolgarston students continue to perform significantly above the national average. Wolgarston over many years has gained a reputation for delivering great results and this year is no exception. Congratulations to all of our students and teachers for their hard work, dedication and spirit. I also would like to wish all of our students the best for the future, whether they join our sixth form, go to college or begin an apprenticeship.”

Wolgarston students continue to punch above their weight with another year of sixth form success

15 August 2019

Once again, Wolgarston High School in Penkridge has recorded another strong set of sixth form results.

A Level results are not only up on last year’s results for the school but will outstrip the National and Staffordshire average scores. Wolgarston has enjoyed a place at the top end of the league tables for many years now and this trend shows no signs of stopping when they are published in the winter.

Philip Tapp, Headteacher said, “We are absolutely delighted to have an average grade of a B- for students taking three or more A Levels. We’ve also seen some tremendous subject area successes with special mentions to our Maths, History, Sociology and Media students and teachers who outdid themselves with some fantastic grades.

The success didn’t just stop at A Levels, with an excellent set of results for the vocational subjects offered at BTEC Level 3.

Philip Tapp continued, “We have substantially widened our curriculum over the last couple of years, introducing an A Level in Media and BTECs in Applied Science, Art & Design, Business and Health & Social Care and all of these subjects performed strongly. Three quarters of our BTEC students took advantage of our broad range of vocational and academic subjects and studied one or more A Level alongside BTECs which has meant they really have got the best of both worlds. The blend of vocational and academic is performing exceptionally well and is very much here to stay at Wolgarston. I would like to take this opportunity to offer my congratulations to all of our students and to our excellent team of teachers.”

Wolgarston High School is part of Penk Valley Academy Trust, a company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales, number 11124272
